The following is information I received in another artist’s newsletter and I thought I would pass it on to you.

One of the most frequent questions I am asked is, “what is a giclee’?” and what is the difference from prints made in the past?  The November 2005 issue of The Artist’s Magazine has an special section titled Giclee Reproduction:  Double Vision, an article packed with information regarding giclees, prints and reproductions.

Speaking about magazines............I have stacks of The Artist’s Magazine from the last five years (maybe longer).  If anyone has a good idea as to who might want these, let me know.  Otherwise I will take them to the recycling bin.  It’s part of my resolution to simplify, sort and organize.  I hate to throw them out, but I have not had a need to go back and use them once, soooooo they need to go.

I love the Art Calendar Magazine! especially the articles written by Jack White.  www.ArtCalendar.com

The Sertoma Butterfly house in Sioux Falls is an oasis, a peaceful quiet piece of nature in the middle of the hectic city,  4320 S Oxbow Ave.  They are open everyday except holidays.  Their website has all the info you may want and more or give them a call, 605 332-9466. Well worth an hour or two of your time. www.sertomabutterflyhouse.org

Arts on Grand is offering Glass Blowing Workshop 101, this Thursday, Friday & Saturday, sessions to learn the art of glass blowing, instructed by Jesse Bogenrief.  What an awesome opportunity to work one-on-one with a master glass artist!!  I have signed up for a session Thursday afternoon. Call Arts on Grand at 712-262-4307 to see if there are spots still available.

A customer had bought a painting from her for a good chunk of change. Later while browsing Ebay, paintings were found which were direct copies of her work. Well, the person who bought her painting cancelled their check because the same work was being copied and sold for cheap on Ebay (the copies were of poor quality). Turns out it was not a scam one hears about regarding Chinese web sites turning up with reproductions of paintings done by Western artists when permission was never granted to do that.
Anyway, this case was different in that it turned out to be an amateur painter totally unaware of copyright and intellectual property rights. This painter was encouraged to make copies as part of his education (hell, many of us have gone to museums to make copies) without being told about the legal implications. Turns out this painter sold over 300 works by other artists! The good news is that Ebay was fast in their response and had the paintings removed immediately.
So, maybe we should take a minute to browse Ebay to see if any of our paintings are up there.
